Meeting the Challenge
Mpho Mpopo, 19, lives in Maseru, Lesotho. Like many young men his age, he is trying to work his way through college. However, when Mpho finishes his day at school he doesn't come home to his parents--he's the parent. Mpho is the head of a household of seven children and has been for (how many years?), all whose parents have died.
In a country where almost a quarter of the adults are infected with HIV or AIDS, the high number of children who are orphaned is a constant struggle and often times child-headed households like this one are the only option. This is Mpho's story of facing those challenges.
